- FOR VAG: Invalid or missing data for steering/steering wheel
- Illuminated warning lights (EPS, traction, or stability control indicators)
- Loss of steering wheel button functions (radio, cruise control, etc.)
- Noticeable reduction or loss of power steering assist
- Erratic steering feel or temporary stiffness
- Intermittent or complete loss of communication with the steering module
Possible Causes
- Loose, corroded, or damaged wiring/connectors in the steering module circuit

- IDENTIFY MANUFACTURER FIRST - VAG, Ford/Lincoln/Mercury, Mazda, or Jaguar/Land Rover
- Scan for additional codes, especially those from steering, body, or network modules
- Visual inspection of connectors at the steering wheel, under the dash, and at the BCM for loose pins, corrosion, or damage
- Battery and charging system check - ensure voltage is within OEM specs
- Inspect clockspring and steering wheel wiring for broken wires or poor connections
- Test the SCP (J1850) bus wiring with a multimeter to check continuity and resistance between modules
- With a scan tool, verify if the steering module responds and shares data
